Is anybody out there?

It’s 11:30 right now on a Friday night, and I’m in bed. I was about to write that all I can hear outside is nothing, but an ambulance just drove down the street and its siren cut through the silence. A sign that this place is alive…or maybe not.

I moved into the city on Wednesday, an area near that I thought would be like the Lower East Side, but it’s not. It is so quiet it is as if there was an apocalypse and the group of us in D.C. were the only to survive. And everyone talks at a normal decibel. Where is all the yelling? Am I missing something? I sound dramatic. I am dramatic, but I think I am experiencing culture shock. New York is a blessing and a curse.

At least I have cool roommates. We all have names that start with A: Adam, Alex, Adrian and Abby. Tonight Abby and I had some wine and watched a documentary. She’s a journalist, too. We also talked a bit about life goals, too, because mine were on my mind a lot today. It was one of those days. Focus is going to be key.

By the way, I had to YouTube how to open a wine bottle using a cork screw.
