Just a List of Things

This week was probably one of the best weeks yet, for several reasons.

1. I can officially walk to work. I have yet to give into the bike cult that is DC, but I will keep you updated on that.

2. I met Pete McBride, and I basically blacked out when I met him. He turned around as I was walking through the door at work and my reaction went like this: (gasp) “Oh. My. God. Sorry, sorry. I am so sorry, I am just really starstruck. And I think shaking.” Thankfully he’s very cool, and un-thankfully (that is not a word) I am not.

3. I got to see my first final show, and that was Pete’s. A final show is when the photographers present a selection of say, 25 photos pulled from nearly 10,000 photos taken while on assignment that, together with the photo editor of a particular story, have been selected as the final possible choices to feature as the photos for that story in the magazine. From there, about half make it in to the magazine.

4. I got to meet the executive producers of one of my all-time favorite shows in the entire world, and I told them that I am the most important person in my company. That’s what happens when I get nervous and black out.

5. Officially made some friends, so that turned out well.

6. I received an email late on Friday afternoon that one of my other all-time favorite photographers whose talk I went to in Sydney is coming to give a final show very soon. I waited around for hours after his talk was over because I wanted to be his tour guide. Instead, he signed my journal. Still pretty cool. Anyway, he will be around very soon. Like very soon. I feel as excited as my friend Molly did when she was the first person in line (literally, they referred to her as ‘Number One’) at a bookstore on the night on the last Harry Potter book release.

The “meh” part to the week was that my boss was off traveling. Most people would be really happy about that, but I think my boss is really pretty awesome.
