What I can suggest is maybe finding a Canterbury Clothing store and buy a pair of their track pants. They are waterproof and deliciously warm. On the expensive side, but you have 5 weeks in NZ when it is probably only going to get colder. http://www.canterburyofnz.com/womens/track-pants.html (There is one in Queenstown) They have zips right down the side, so you can roll them up for different lengths.
Or pop down to a Glassons store and get a pair of jeans, girl!
