Travel Quotes Thursday

For my travel quotes Thursday post this week, I came across something in my e-mail that I may have seen on one form of social media or another. It’s not particular to traveling, but I feel it is suits the stage and chapters I am about to embark on this time around when I travel.

It is not a critic who counts, not the man who points out how strong men stumble, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit goes to the man who is actually in the arena, who strives, who spends himself, and who at the worst if he fails, at least he fails while daring, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.” – Teddy Roosevelt

I will be totally alone, from New Zealand all the way through to South America, and I have never started solo from the absolute get-go; in China, I knew I’d cross paths with a friend, and when I did Asia, I had already slipped in to my travel rhythm when Molly and I parted ways.

There are things about this trip that make me feel like it will be one long, dark and dreary night spent in a rickety old house that’s creaking and crying until the sun comes up the next morning and the breaking dawn saves me.

Then, there are things about it that make me feel like I’ll be dancing across continents as I learn how to embrace life and opportunity again.

I have many challenges ahead, which is why I found this quote to be spot on for this week’s travel quotes Thursday post. I have a lot of goals planned for my travels this time, and they can go one way or the other.

At least I’ll know I tried.
